Race Report
My recap from the 20th Annual Hot Rod Shootout.
This past weekend we attended the 20th annual Hot Rod Hobbies Shootout in Santa Clarita, CA. One of the only true offroad outdoor tracks left , the dirt is natural and untreated, this is one of my favorite 1/10 races to attend.
I raced in the mod 2wd, mod 4wd and mod truck classes.
Qualifying started on Friday, in 2wd I finished 2nd in each of the 2 qualifiers, in 4wd I finished 2nd and 4th, and in truck I finished 3rd and 4th. Saturday was the second day of qualifying and there would be 2 more qualifiers for each class, I was able to tq both qualifiers in both 2wd and 4wd to take the overall tq in both classes. Truck was a bit more of a challenge I was only able to finish 4th and 7th which would put me starting 4th on the grid.
Wind played havoc with the cars throughout qualifying which made the already difficult track more challenging at times.
Sunday was main day with triple A mains for all classes, they were run later in the day and by this time the wind was stronger than the previous days which made the mains very challenging and eventful.
In 4wd after an incident in one of the early laps I would drop to 7th but with the wind playing havoc with everyone I was able to make my way back to the front to take the win in A1. A2 the wind was keeping everyone on their toes, I had a crash on the first lap due to the wind which set me back again, I was able to make my way back to the front and battle for the lead but would finish 2nd. A3 would be the deciding main for the overall, I was able to have a smooth race without mistakes and took the win giving me the overall win for 4wd.
In truck, the wind played even a bigger role in the racing, everyone was struggling, I was able to make my way up to 2nd and battling for the lead but was not able to make the pass and would finish 2nd in A1. In A2 and A3 I would finish 3rd which would put me 3rd on the podium.
In 2wd again the wind played a factor more for some than others, after being taken out by wind I would make my way up to the front, the lead would swap multiple times right up until the last lap where I would move up to the lead and take the win in A1. In A2 I was able to get out to a 5 second lead until I had a blowover on the front triple in which I would land on my rear wheel and breaking an arm ending the race for me. A3 was again very eventful, the lead swapping many times, in this one we battled right to the end unfortunately I would finish 3rd which would put me 3rd on the podium for 2wd.
