Race Report

This past weekend I raced the US Open Fuel Championships at Sun City RC in Canutillo, TX. The facility is awesome hosted by the very welcoming Showers family, who make sure everyone has everything they need. Some of the top drivers in the US were in attendance so it was guaranteed to be good racing.

The track layout was a lot of fun, super high speed with just enough technical areas to make it challenging to go fast.

Friday was practice and the team worked together to get everyone on a good setup, there were a lot of Xray cars racing this weekend and it is good to see the brand growing well in this area of the US.

Saturday was qualifying with the best 2 out of 3 rounds counting. I ran ebuggy and nitro buggy. Qualifying went really well, I qualified 2nd in ebuggy and took the TQ in nitro buggy. They watered the track every other run, some of the drivers felt the track was better dry and others felt the track was better wet, so I think it balanced it self out fairly well.

Sunday was mains day, there was a single 10 minute A main for ebuggy and the ladder system for nitro buggy. Ebuggy main was up first, it was pretty hectic at the beginning, but when everything got sorted I had a good battle with Jared, he got by me whe I had a small bobble on the top right side of the track. I followed him for a few laps trying to get around him and I was able to get on the inside and take the lead back, and then go on to take the win.

I was in the odd semi starting first, I would take the win with my time being the fastest I would start on pole for the 45 minute final. The final couldn’t have gone better for me, the track was drying out so I made a different tire selection for the main, and it worked out really well. At the start Jared made me work to keep the lead, but I was eventually able to created a gap and go on to take the win. Unfortunately Ryan Maifield starting in 2nd got roughed up on the first lap and we weren’t able to have a good battle.
Special thanks to the Xray/RC America team, Ross McDonald for the marshall help, Bailee Georges for the pit help and the Showers family for all their hospitality.

I want to thank my sponsors for giving me the opportunity to race with amazing products, Xray, RC America, Proline, OS Engines, Hobbywing, MKS, VP Fuel, A Main Hobbies, Protek RC, Hudy, Lunsford, Avid, StickIt 1, Darkside Designs, OCRC, 110% Racing.
